What Is Veganism?
Veganism in a nutshell is a person who selects to avoid eating, consuming or wearing animal products or products derived from animals.
Switching to a plant based vegan diet was one of the best decisions that I made with my family.
A personal quest for better health and disease free longevity of life is what inspired my family and I to make the change.
Veganism basically supports three main ideas of thought.
Its Better for you, Better for animals and Better for the planet.
Better For You
Eat Well and Live Well
Maintaining a healthy balanced vegan diet free from animal products is considered by many health professionals and physicians to be the only true way of maintaining ones health. Eating a diet that consists of a variety of fruits and vegetables along with whole grains, nuts and seeds can actually be all that’s needed to help and even reverse a vast number of systemic diseases that so many people are inflicted with in today’s society. Many people that I myself have encountered in life have experienced such dramatic positive changes in their Diabetes, Hypertension, Cholesterol, Weight, Sleeping Habits and various other health problems.
Better for Animals
There are negative karmic reactions when injustices are done to other humans and animals.
The inhumane treatment of factory farmed animals is a sight that any person would have a hard time fathoming. Many animals born and raised in factory farms from the moment they are born enter into a life of confinement, torture, brutality and sheer misery. One may ask what is the basic reason for this horrifying torture? Well quite simply so that humans may have a plentiful supply of dairy products and meat products for their consumption and various leather goods. Unfortunately a large number of consumers today are unaware and uneducated in understanding where their food they are purchasing actually comes from. This question however is a very crucial question that everyone should be asking today. A better understanding of this would surely urge and convince more people that consuming and using animal products is not the best option. Fortunately today there are so many alternatives to dairy and meat products which are healthier for you too. Various milks, cheeses, butters and meat alternatives are so readily available in speciality food stores today. With a growing concern for ones health, even conventional grocery stores are starting to carry various dairy and meat free foods.
Better For The Planet
Veganism is one definitive way of ensuring a healthy planet for our future generations.
The idea of veganism having a direct positive effect on the planet may seem like a far fetched notion but in actual fact it is definitely worth pondering on. The production of meat across the world has increased at an alarming rate in the last 50 to 100 years. This clearly indicates that the world population at large are consuming more and more meat and dairy products. To keep up with the increased demands of the meat eating planet, an increased number of animals need to be bred. To do this a much larger number of crops need to be harvested to feed these animals to produce the meat. It is important to understand that it requires a very large quantity of crops to produce a very small amount of meat. The negative effects of doing this however result in environmental issues such as malnutrition, poverty, global warming, degeneration of the land and many other environmental issues.
With the growing population of the planet in mind, it is going to become increasingly difficult to produce these large quantities of meat for the feeding nation. We all need to understand that by continuing to use and consume animal products the consequences on the planet at large are going to be devastating. Our dietary habits today are very much going to impact the quality of life of our future generations.
We as a nation need to understand this now.
